Modify Clone

Posted in Cinema4D MoGraph on August 24th, 2010 by Tim

I was asked about the Modify Clone parameter that is available on many of the effectors.  I made a real simple file that shows the parameter in use and thought I’d share it here.

Modify Clone

The Modify Clone parameter

If you have several objects under a cloner and the cloner is set to something other than cluster, then the modify clone parameter will determine which clones are displayed in the editor and rendered.

In this simple example scene, the Shader Effector is set to modify clone at 100%.  I have animated the colour brightness so it starts black and ends white. As it changes colour it ‘Modifies’ the Clone being shown.

Luxx website goes live!

Posted in News on April 14th, 2010 by Tim

It has been a busy few months since the doors closed over at Hypa HQ and my new company Luxx was born.

The new Luxx website has finally gone online. There’s an eclectic mix of projects that I’ve been part of over the years, and a few more pieces in the pipeline right now that will be added when they go live.

luxxsite

Luxx Site

Those of you familiar with the work I’ve been involved with over the years will probably recognise some from the projects realised at HYPA. A huge thanks to Mark Allin for all the work that we created together over the years as HYPA.tv and best of luck to Mark with his new ventures at 2020x.

There are also a few projects that I worked on as part of the team at Umeric. Fantastic bunch of really talented people and an absolute pleasure to be invited to join them on that creative rollercoaster! Ash Bolland is an incredibly talented guy and if you are not familiar with the work he has directed then be sure to check out the Umeric website.

Thanks for all the support to everyone that visits helloluxx. I know I’ve been a little bit slack with the updates over the last month or so. Now the Luxx website has finally gone live, I’m sure I can rustle up some posts to keep helloluxx as active as I’d like it to be!

3D World

3D World

The new 3D World magazine is on sale from today in the UK. I was offered the exciting opportunity of creating the cover artwork and a twenty second animation for this months issue.

3D World from Tim Clapham on Vimeo.

Working with Mark Allin, an old friend and my ex-business partner from HYPA. We both developed the concept and design of the piece. I then took the designs and worked up the 3D animation in Cinema4D and completed the composite and grade in After Effects. Thanks to Mark, who also created the sound design for the animation.

As part of the project, I wrote a 36 step tutorial that walks you through the processes to create something similar yourself. Please visit the 3D World official website to find out more and order your own copy.

Sorted — Using the MoGraph sort options

Posted in Cinema4D MoGraph on December 8th, 2009 by Tim

In this short tutorial, I show you some more of the features available in the Cinema4D MoGraph module.

By using the Sort option in the Cloner, you can use Effectors to determine which clone from the hierarchy is displayed.

The Sorted option in the Random Effector allows you to use each child of the cloner the same number of times, or in combination with the multishader you can ensure the shaders are distributed evenly across your clones. Great for things like playing cards where you don’t want duplicate clones.

To find out more visit Vimeo and watch the tutorial.

Cinema4D Light Dome

Posted in Cinema4D Misc, Cinema4D MoGraph on November 22nd, 2009 by Tim

Hi everyone and welcome to helloluxx, the new home of my blog.

As a thank you for all the continued support, I’ve created a Light Dome scene that you can download for use in your own Cinema4D scenes. You will need MoGraph to use the setup and I created it using Cinema4D r11.5, but it should work fine in r11, and maybe even 10.5.

The Light Dome is fairly straight forward to use. Here’s a screenshot of the available parameters.

I’ve also created a short tutorial that gives you a quick overview of the controls. You can check this out on Vimeo.
